do you put anything in a ladybird house to attract ladybirds

I don't think so, Lyn, because essentially they are looking for safe sleeping quarters for the winter. I will be interested to see whether anyone else feeds them.

You might be disappointed this year Lyn, as there has been a scarcity of ladybirds. They seem to come in waves, plentiful in some years and scarce in others. They eat aphids so don't spray your plants if you want ladybirds in your garden!! Other insects might well use your ladybird house over the winter, particularly lacewings. Good luck with your ladybird house---the more we do for wildlife the better!
