Trust the Yanks to grow bigger
Beetroot - beets, as they call them over there - although I did have a hand in it.
When I was there I set some for my daughter who's always very busy, in January this year, and she's tended to them since. The soil was awful and little grew there before. She's just dug a couple up and made crisps of them ! ? ( I've never heard of this )
See the photo below, and like me she has large hands.

I used to make beetroot wine M, but haven't done so for a great many years. I remember it was very good though.

Hank - it's not just in the US that they grow bigger and better things. I've just added two photos of 1 large beetroot and 1 large carrot (amongst some odd shaped carrots) that I've picked from my Essex garden recently and I'm sure I saw that you had recently dug up a very large potato too. I'm going to be picking more veg tomorrow so I wonder what I will discover then!
Happy gardening.

I suppose I realise that Littlet, it's just that my beetroot always end up golf ball size and despite trying, I've never grown a carrot longer than 3 inches.
But I do have some successes as you mentioned.

They look great. Yes you can buy veg crisps including parsnip and they're tasty.
