Stick a willow (Salix) twig into the wet soil and it will easily root.
Stay clear of Crack Willow (Salix fragilis) as these received their name because they have a tendancy to drop twigs and limbs unexpectedly.
Willows love wet conditions and soak up a lot of water. Planting away from buildings reduces the risk of subsidence caused by soil shrinkage due to the uptake of water by the tree, it also reduces the risk of damage by the trees roots.
