Strawberries different varieties

great

I asked this question before. Any way can different varieties of strawberry plants be grown together?. I have 4 Cambridge favourites and I was told by David a member of GOY that Lidl have cheap Elsanta strawberries but there a different variety. Can I plant them in the same planter?

Ian says, yes absolutely, it would make no difference. We have four varieties in the same bed.

Yup, Ian's quite right. Cross polination has no effect on the fruit - the difference would appear in plants grown from the seed of that fruit as they'd be crosses between the two.

Hi Ian - great to see you're back - hope you're feeling back to normal now?!

Thanks Sid. I seem to have strawberry's all around the garden growing quite nicely already. I bought a pack of 6 a couple of years ago and now there everywhere!!! They don't seem to fruit though that's why I bought some new ones and decided to put then a planter so I could keep a better eye on them. One good thing is being all over the place they keep the weeds down ha ha

Hi Sid, it'a Carol here, I am reading the questions to Ian and writing the answers for him. :))
Great, if you want to increase your fruit then cut off any runners you see growing. This way the plant will want to grow fruit to produce seeds.

Great - Yes, I've got them all over the place too, but I dont get many strawberries coz the blackbirds are better than me at keeping an eye on them!! I intend this year to have a devoted strawberry bed so I can throw a net over the whole lot - that should thwart 'em lol

Hi Carol - got Ian at home then? He can't be too poorly if he's firing answers at you!! Love to you both. S.

Hi Sid , I thought I'd have a quick look on here before bed; its back to work for me tomorrow. Dont wanna go Ive spent the week in my garden. I'd have to have a pretty large net ~I didn't know the strawbwerries would travel so far, they've even hoped it over the fence to next door!!! blooming cheek lol

Hello Great, Ian had a "mini" stroke last weekend but is making a good recovery. He had two this time last year and made an almost full recovery from them so the doctors and I think he can do it again as he isn't anywhere near as bad this time.

Sid, Ian discharged himself and turned up in a taxi still in his pyjamas. He is OK really as he can sort of stumble/walk around but he gets very tired still and slurs his words etc. He had an op on this artery in his neck to stop it from collapsing again and as long as he takes his time he will be fine.
We don't have the same problems with blackbirds but we do have a problem with a certain little Holly (bird) pinching them. lol

Anyway best wishes and goodnight.

Ha ha...I had to have a giggle at the thought of Ian walking out in his PJs and jumping in a taxi and the forrory that must have broke about amongst the nurses!! 'Erm, Matron, we've lost a patient!!' But this must have been such a scary thing to have happened - lucky he's a fighter and resilient. All best wishes. xx
