what is the best ground for growing carrots

Answers

A light sandy soil with a fine tilth. Do not add any compost or manure as this will encourage the root to fork. Ditto for parsnips.

I grew mine in some long plastic flower troughs from Wilkos, filled with compost. The seeds were carefully and thinly planted and the resulting carrots were a lovely size, not too big and a couple to serve two of us each time. I was really pleased with the results and have set some more off in the same way this year.

Good for you Reebee - the big thing as you will know is no stones as they can cause the root to split.
