For the last three years something has been eating the trumpets of my daffodils. The trumpets are perfectly formed but over a period of a couple of weeks each one is progressively destroyed (eaten). What can be responsible for this and how can I resolve this problem?

Quite a few of us have the same thing this year, a few of my Narcissus and Tulip flowers have been eaten. Opinion on here varies from slugs and snails to birds!
