If I buy/plant foxglove plugs now will they flower this year? I'm really keen on 'Candy Mountain'. If anyone has any general tips on growing foxgloves too i'd love any help as I am very new to gardening!

You wont get a lot of flowers in the first year as they are biannual's but from next year on you will get lots of flowers. Just remember not to remove the seedlings!

Thanks both that's great. So I should just leave them be after flowering and not cut down? Also, I have 2 cats, are they too poisionous to have in the garden??

Once the plant has flowered it will die but will leave lots of seedlings to grow up. Yes foxgloves are poisonous to cats but then so are many plants, why would any sane, or insane, cat eat a foxglove?

We planted at least 100 foxgloves last year but as yet, only 1 has new growth this year - is it to early yet for them to be showing this years foliage? I would certainly have expected at least half of them to have survived but at the moment it looks as though they have all died out which I cannot believe as some have flowered for the last 2 years & were big plants. How's everyone else's - are you seeing this years plants yet?

Hi Cottageg as I have already said foxgloves are biennials. So in their first year they simply grow leaves. In the second the flower, seed and die. It is possible you weeded out all last years seedlings or hoed them up. As they are fully herbaceous it is unlikely the bad weather killed them. However, everything is behind this year so be patient.

We will just have to be patient I guess MG - thanks. The majority of dalphinium appear to have survived the winter well I'm glad to say. :o)

Welcome to GOY. Foxgloves beautiful plants loved by the bees which are in decline/ Once you grow a foxglove you will have it forever more as they seed everywhere. I have loads of them popping up in my garden. It will produce flowers in the 1st year but they will be so much better in the following years. These plants are poisionous. So be careful!!!
