Has any one ever built a raised thingy using cement, sand and soil. Can I ask what you used it for, any advice and did you plant anything on it? Thanks Nan

Please define 'thingy' a little more. I have made a hypertufa Crevice garden. Hypertuf is a mix of cement sand and peat
I thought I had Blogged it but apparently not.

Sorry, Owdboggy, you are supposed to read my mind! I have just looked up hypertufa and that is not what I meant. I saw Joe swift make a raised mound using mainly soil and some sand and cement. It was something for a disabled lady to sit on (I think)

Can't imagine that a mixture of soil, sand and cement mounded up would be comfortable to sit on!

Thanks Linclass. That was such a fascinating blog. I am trying to make myself a small scented seat from the remains of my renovation. My garden is all paved so it will stand on the pavings enclosed by some wall blocks. I think I need to add the sand and cement to give a bit of stability to the central bit for my bum. I have found the percentages but can't remember how Joe Swift made it.
I was thinking about planting some cammomile and thyme on it but not sure that will stand up to me sitting on it.

If you know the name of the programme you were watching, try searching for it on YouTube, alternatively Joe Swift has his own Web page, perhaps drop him an email.

I checked the blog (looking to borrow ideas when I eventually get outdoors from decorating) it's April 2012 ...

Not sure how well your idea will work Nannijii - what is going to happen when it rains heavily? Do you have a problem with standing water in your garden as it is all paved?

No Moon growe. I should not have said all paved, the paving is sort of in the form of cross so I have 4 wide beds in each corner.I guess the garden is about 60:40 paving and beds. Also I live in East London bordering Essex, I think we are the driest county in England. You are probably right, it was just that when I stacked the brick blocks out of the way they looked like an armchair and that was was gave me yet another of my impractical ideas! I have been out there today three times in the rain looking at it and moving the incredibly heavy blocks around.
