what can i plant in here?

This well is right outside my lounge window, i plan to remove the roof and plant some kind of small tree and then smaller plants that will hang over the edge, as i've said before i don't really much about gardening and any suggestions would be helpful.
It goes down deeper, if it helps i will go measure width and depth.

Its not a working well, previous owner had it built, so inside and bottom is concrete, measures 38" /96cm deep by 34" / 89cm.

Hi Clairey, it looks lovely as it is. Can't you just plant round it?

its right outside my lounge window so when i look out thats what i see, i am not keen on it, i would rather plant in it. On the surrounding ground the previous owner has put down like a plastic sheet then smashed slate all over it, i think the idea was to stop the weeds, but it has all overgrown, so its going to take hours, probably days until i reach soil.

Right, sounds like hard work. Can understand why you would prefer to plant in it. Sorry, can't help you with what tree to plant. As for trailing plants you could use begonias, lobelias, geraniums, fuschias, all of the trailing variety and some ivy would look nice too, especially if you were going to plant them in pots on the ledge of the well. Good luck....;o)

If it is all concreted you are going to have a problem growing anything other than bedding plants. Water is going to sit in there and create a sump. I would strongly advise against trying to plant a tree/shrub. To be honest unless you want a lot of work I would leave as it stands and plant up with annual bedding plants.

Clairey, you might be able to drill through the concrete bottom, depending on how thick it is. If so, drill 2 cm holes in several different places, and you can treat it like any other large container. Another possibility is to drill holes through the bottom of the sides to make weep holes for drainage. Sorry, Moongrower, in my experience, even bedding plants would eventually suffer without drainage. Bog plants might work....

I agree Tugbrethil but figured bedding plants less likely to suffer than a tree.
