can anyone tell me if geranium pyrenaicum is a thug? I introduced Herb Robert and my husband moans like mad. I've now bought g.p. and have read that it is just as bad at taking over.

On plant Geranium

Not really - it does seed around, but it's easily controlled. It ambles around amongst your plants - and I love it! I certainly wouldn't call it a thug. Now - Herb Robert! Hmmmm....that's different. :-((

Which one have you got? 'Bill Wallis'?

I don't know, it was sold to us yesterday as g.ibericum but when we looked it up at home, that one has much bigger flowers and more sharply cut leaves, so I have been researching on the net and g.pyrenaicum looks and sounds much more like it. It has really pretty little pale blue/mauve flowers and almost lime coloured chubby shaped hairy leaves. I love it anyway (but then I love herb robert too... so there's no hope for me - I just pull up handfuls of h.r. when I need to!)

I think you may need to check my 'Bill Wallis' out. He hasn't got lime coloured leaves...type 'Geranium 'Bill Wallis' into the search box, and you'll find a couple of photos of the flowers.

I did look at Bill Wallis but my flowers are paler and bluer - kind of the colour of those palma violet sweets you used to get. When I said limey coloured leaves I didn't really mean lime, more bright rather than deep green and the leaves are faintly furry rather than hairy. I'd put a pic up but my camera doesn't capture colours truly. I do think it's a hedgerow cranesbill of a sort though, and I have seen it before, growing wild in odd places and have always fancied it, so when I saw it yesterday I just had to have it!! I don't care if it seeds about, it's so pretty... thanks :)

You're welcome - sorry I can't ID it properly for you. Bill sends out long strands of flowers - low to the ground, so you should soon know if it is him. I'm very fond of Bill!

How do I say thanks?
