why do standard roses go wild
No suckers just the tops of the bushes, can you tell me also how garden centers keep them in nice short round shapes please

They don't - unless you ignore sucker growth, particularly from the base, which then takes over. Sometimes the grafted rose at the top of the stem dies, the rootstock takes over and in no time you have a messy briar...
