Aquilegia - I have several of these and would like some advice on when different ones flower. The barlow double ones have all got buds and look like they will flower shortly. However, I have some which I believe were McKanna hybrids bought as bare root plants, which show no sign of flowering at all. Is this normal or will I not get any flowers this year if there is no sign of buds yet?

If the plants appear healthy enough, I wouldn't worry too much. Friends in Durango, Colorado tell me that their 'McKana's Giants frequently don't show buds until late June--a month later than their other varieties, except the native Blue Columbine.

I would have expected the mckanna's to have buds by now. if barerooted then they could be 'sulking'. I have a species one that is showing buds though it is not as far on as the others.
