Dark leaf Astilbe Avalanche

I have ordered a set of 3 different coloured Dark leaf Astilbe Avalanche. Red, white and pink. Don't know which one is which. Guess I'll have to plant them before I know. These have all come bare rooted. How do I care for these plants? Do I plant them in the garden or start them off in pots?

Thanks Bamboo. I think I will put them in a pot!

Remember that like your hellebores they are going to need partial shade and a good humus rich soil that retains moisture. Plant about 1 foot apart.

Was thinking of putting them in my wildlife area MG around the pond; one end of the pond is in partial shade

Should work so long as soil is humus rich and stays moist

« This is another plant I sent of for Mirabilis Japala. Again I don't know what...
Depends on how easy it is to keep them watered in the ground, Great. I'd soak them in a bucket of water (the roots) and then pot them up for preference, because it's easier for me to water them that way, until they've established themselves. But if you think you can keep up with watering in the ground, then plant them out.
