please tell me the best way to take cuttings from a bay tree

Answers

I took loads of cuttings last year from my bay tree, but only nine lived to grow any roots. You can see the survivors in my pictures. They have just spent a month on the heated sand bed,and are now ,suddenly showing new growth.

I am hoping to grow them into standards,as I did with my first one. ( from which I took these cuttings.)( I will take a picture tommorrow )

I used a mixture of multi use compost, with sand and grit, and a taste of bone meal, plus some of that jell stuff to prevent drying out.
This same mixture has proved to be successful with cuttings of clematus also.

Bay trees are so expensive to buy,and I look forward to having spare ones to give to friends.
