I bought these petunias as small plugs. Apart from some of them growing pale and leggy the other problem i have are these strange green leafy flower head thingies! I've never seen these before what are they?

Thanks for the help. I thought I may have discovered some strange mutated variety of petunia here and got all nervous and excited...ahh the perks of being a novice gardener! Anyway, any ideas how I might beef up the pale skinny ones in the second pic? I think I may have over watered them? Should I pinch the tops?

Maybe provide some more light, and give them a high nitrogen feed--Petunias are hungry plants!

It's a Grandiflora type petunia, and they have larger and wider sepals than other kinds of petunias. That accounts for the outer "starfish", while the inner ruffles are probably the petals, which are usually greenish at that stage. They're supposed to be a light-colored double variety, aren't they?
