Hi, I have a lovely acer in my garden, however i dont know what it is as it is deep red and feathery at the bottom and larger not feathery green leaves with red on the edges!!! its like two plants in one. Does any one know what variety it is and how i should prune and look after it. It is in the garden, should i put it in a pot. Thank you. lozi x

Sounds as if the top growth has reverted - you probably have a Dissectum variety, but the top growth isn't. I'd remove the rogue branches, keep any eye on it and remove any further rogue ones which appear, to give the much slower growing Dissectum part a chance to grow.

How do I say thanks?
