Nest is empty...amongst my clemetis there was a blackbird nesting there....it had laid eggs and she was back and forth....but I noticed I hadnt seen her today so I had a peek and theres one dead baby bird there but no eggs. Bit soon for them to fledge....will they move them if they feel unsafe...The nest is low down on the garden wall. Aww I feel quite sad now :(

Pretty birds but vicious - that's nature.

Pretty birds but vicious - that's nature. This came out twice for some reason and it won't let me delete it.

It's hard to see nature in action sometimes. Very sad.

Blackbird chicks usually fledge in about 2 weeks, but if the nest is disturbed or threatened they will leave the nest before this time and hide in cover nearby until they have learned to fly and feed themselves.
From what you said about finding one of the brood dead, it seems highly likely that this is what has happened. Have a look around in nearby undergrowth and you might find the rest of the little mites hiding until they're ready to look after themselves.

No, birds can't move their young. Unfortunately it seems they have been got at by the most likely candidate - magpies. Same thing happened in my garden last year.
