Evening one and all. Things are improving at last, some decent gardening weather on the way and smug face Titchmarsh dropped from Chelsea (thank you God!).
I have a Papaver (poppy) which has several large buds and looking good. Only problem, it's in the wrong place. Whats the view on trying to move it now. I have the perfect spot only 2 yards away in the same border. Shall I chance it?

Best left for now, as Moon grower says - it would be so sad to lose the flowers.

The best way to deal with this is to enjoy the flowers and when they are over cut the stems back and some of the foliage, dig deep and lift it out and plant in your preferred position that has been prepared, it will sulk slightly but trust me it will work, if it were to stay very dry then water to get it going, i can assure you you do not need to wait until Autumn, i have done this so many times, it always works.

Is it a perennial? No point moving it otherwise as it will die off once it's flowered. I'd leave it be and let it set seed, collect the seed and sow next spring where you want it.
ps At least Titchmarsh is a gardener and not just someone who can read from an autocue. No longer watch Chelsea as but if I was to get rid of a garden presenter it would be Monty Drone.

If its perennial which by the sounds of it,it is as most of the large flowering oriental poppys are in bud or have broken bud already and seem just a little earlier this year, on the other hand if its one of the annual papavers then leave in situ, but if its perennial then it can be moved now, no question about it, like i say i have done this task many times and it never fails.

Thanx to all for comments. Well I could'nt resist it!
Did everything wrong, I moved it last week during our mini heatwave, the rootball was too dry and I lost half of it, and I forgot to fill the hole with water before transplanting. Afterwards the plant looked very sorry for itself and I thought it was a goner. But guess what, after plenty of watering and feeding ( and swearing!) it's recovered, well except for a few leaves.
Mother nature eh, always kidding us.

Keep it well watered and start praying as well!

Previous question
Personally I wouldn't move any plant or shrub that was just about to flower… Enjoy it where it is this year and move in the autumn. I also think there are far worse than Titchmarsh on Chelsea!
