My son has a very old Herbie which is approx 12 feet tall. Very thick at top half but thin on bottom half. If I trim it right down to about two feet will it grow tall again but thicker bottom half ?

Do you know what type of Hebbie? In principle the answer is yes but some Hebbie do not grow back well and give that thickness that you require.

I had a very straggly hebe and tried cutting back half one year and the other the next so there was still plenty of foliage to support the plant until the cut stems had branched from the bottom.
I'm trying it again with one of the small Wiri varieties and it appears to be working.

Are you quite sure it is a hebe - I have never heard of one that grows anything like as tall as that so if it is would be very interested to know the variety or see a photo.

I usually do a 1/3 reduction over 3 yrs to bring straggly shrubs up to some standard.

How do I say thanks?
