Asking for a friend, can anyone identify the plant in the middle? Please

This looks very like a sedge (grass) that grows wild on peat moors. Has your friend collected plants or peat for the garden from a moorland visit? If so, there could have been seeds in the soil. It is actually quite attractive in a 'green' sort of way.

Think it could be Field Wood-Rush it looks to be a hairy leaf like that is.

That is the plant I was thinking of, Oo, a Luzula rather than a sedge (they are similar) though these seem rather short for Field Wood-rush?

I only went on to answer your question when I saw the heading that said 'Asking for a friend'. Shucks, I was quite disappointed, LOL. ;o)
