Anyone know the botanical name of this fern - it disappears into the ground over winter and reappears in spring. (I only know it as a 'Lace Fern' but I'm sure that's wrong!)

Looks very much like another I grow Dryopteris dilitata Lepidota Cristata. Billed as semi evergreen but dies back each year in my garden. It's usually quite difficult to put a specific ID on a fern.

Scottish: I certainly agree that it really is quite difficult to give a fern a specific ID.
After looking at loads of photos online, I HAVE finally settled on a Dryopteris but it's d.filix-mas 'Linearis Polydactylon'. (probably wrong!)
Thanks everyone for your help.
