My daughters garden in France seems to have a snake or two, can any one recommend plants that would help to deter them.

Chances are it is not venomous so just watch it as it goes on its way. Where I live we have some wood rattlesnakes and copperheads so if I come upon one I just put some distance between it and myself as I watch it going on its way.

Thank you both. I will pass your comments on to her.
I am glad that I live in (Ihope) a snake free environment.

there are 3 British species Useless. Grass and smooth both harmless and then the adder/viper which is venomous. they tend to slither away at the first sign of danger though so you are unlikely to come across them. More people die from bee and wasp stings in the UK than from adder bites.
So rest assured you are very unlikely to come across them.

These are in France though SBG. French people I know are very wary of snakes in the undergrowth but i don't know what they are. I never heard of any snake being put off by any plant though.

is a good place where your daughter could identify what she has - she may be worrying needlessly.

So it was. We have adders round here but I've never managed to see one - did have a grass snake in the compost bin once - don't know who was more surprised him or me when I took the lid off...

She needs to identify them. Grass snakes are perfectly harmless and need protection so she wouldn't need to do anything about those.
