Hi can anyone advise me on the best way to propagate Tropaoelum speciosum from seed. Sadly we will have to sell our beloved garden and house next year and I am trying to propagate all my favourite plants. The photos are of a shrub border with the Scottish Flame flower growing up to 20 ft high and 20 ft wide one of my very favourite plants but oh so difficult to grow

That is the most magnificent display of them I've seen and it must break your heart to have to leave it, specially as they are so hard to establish. Hope moving tubers works for you, and "may the force be with you"!

Thanks for the advice,, will try lifting tubers but will also try sowing some seed under another conifer and also. try in a seed tray outside. The soil where they are growing is heavy clay and the ground is covered with conifer needles so think I will try sowing the seed on the surface of clay soil and cover with pine needles. Can only try!

I've had no luck with seed nor lifting and moving self seeded plants to alternative sites in my garden. But I know others on here that have.
You could lift some tubers in Autumn just as the plant starts to die back and try growing them on in pots to take with you. I've got a photo of the tubers should you like to see what they look like. If you let me know I'll post them on the photo page for you Wendy.
I sent some to a member here on GOY but have not had a recent update as to how they got on. Perhaps he'll see this and comment.
