Could also be due to a sawfly grub, look like small green caterpillars. One of my iris has been got by these as has the gladioli.

Mine are ALL like this . Its never happened before!

I did see small holes in the rhizomes earlier in the year so it could have been sawfly grub. I have got others which have not been affected. Is there a way of trying to avoid them. Thanks
