I have a viburnum (not sure of the variet. Thankyouy) think it is a Gwendollian, been in the garden now for about a year, doing well, but getting a bit leggy, should I pinch out the tops to encourage lower growth. Have looked it up on a web site, which states little or no pruning

I think that might be one of the V. tinus cultivars, so it should cope with that without complaint.
In southern England I'd do it in August, so it's not going to make vigorous upright shoots in response to the pruning, but I don't know how you'd adjust that for your location.

You could, they normally do not need pruning, but that is not to say that you cannot do it. We have chopped a few of ours back at times when they outgrow their allotted spaces.
