I have what I assume to be crabapple tree in my garden. Quite a large tree with many branches, each of which is covered in small fruit type berries which will all turn a brilliant yellow. It also has quite a few eating applea which are green with a red blush on them. Delicious eating. Are the small yellow fruits edible and are you able to recognise the species.

Ideally you need to remove the lower rootstock branches from the tree otherwise it might take over the tree which will revert to a crab apple tree.

Sounds to me like you have one where the rootstock (producing the small apples) is overtaking the cultivar (the proper Apples). Or somone has been grafting a Golden Hornet type Crab on to an eater.
Either way both apples are edible. The small ones my well be rather sharp to the taste to eat straight from the tree, but Crab apple jelly is delcious.
