Aubergine, Out of comfort zone

I advertised some lettuce plants on Freecycle as I have far too many. But theperson who came to pick them up brought me an exchange item - an Aubergine ! It's 8 inches tall amd quite healthy, but in a tiny pot.
It obviously needs re-potting but that's the extent of my knowledge. Some assistance would be most welcome.
I've just thought - we don't like aubergine - but if it grows I'll eat it on principle !

Treat it like growing sweet peppers in the greenhouse.

If it grows make ratatouille with it. You don't taste the aubergine and its delicious.

Thanks for the info, but it's a strange statement to make Sue - " you can't taste the aubergine and it's delicious " ?

I'm now told I must cut the leader off the aubergine when it gets to 12 inches tall. Really ? I didn't cut the sweet pepper plants. They're now 2 ft 6 and very healthy. Should I have ?
I guess I've a lot to learn.

Trial and error!

Lol, Hank, it does sound daft put like that. But the flavours all blend in so you don't taste any of them individually.

Ratatouille it must be then Sue, thanks. I've already spotted a couple of likely recipes.

What's wrong withe moussaka? As long as you remove the bitter taste by salting and pressing the aubergines, they are very tasty.

I've heard of moussaka but haven't a clue what it is ! But thanks C, I'll look up a recipe and if it looks easy, I'll probably make some. That is - I 'll get my son to make some.

How do I say thanks?
