I have been told that if the rhubarb in your garden is over 7 yrs old, you should no longer eat it's stems as they will be poisonous, just like the leaves. Is this true?

That's a new one to me too.
What I have heard though is that digging up old rhubarb crowns , splitting them into 3 or 4 pieces and replanting them can help re-invigorate them.
This link to an article on the RHS website gives more detail. http://apps.rhs.org.uk/advicesearch/Profile.aspx?pid=544

You've been listening to old wives.

Excuse me, Stjohntongue - I'm pretty sure I fit into the "old wives" category, but am not (yet) in the habit of perpetuating myths such as this, lol;-)))

No, Bamboo, you belong to the "old wives who tell no tales" genre. ;-)))

Bamboo if you fit into the 'old wives' what does that make me? On second thoughts don't answer! lol

I have recently crossed the line between an age beginning with F and one beginning with S, so the third age of womanhood it is, (crone or hag), and definitely an old wife, Moongrower!

Ach I'm a happy crone!

I must admit that age has its compensations - losses, but great compensations.
