Been some since i have been on but i have a problem with an acer i have added some photos to explain the problem. My acer is a very mature plant looked after by only giving it rain water about a watering can full when needed never under or over watering it.It is in a very large container with a mixture of normal and ericaceous compost. It has been perfectly happy for a good many years until this year when some of the feathery leaves show signs of shriveling and wilting in patches over the plant. Can anybody explain whats happening.

Thanks very much for the advice as the acer is in a lined slatted wooden container about 3ft square I will wait to the end of the growing season and make a decision about its future.

Meanwhile, especially if you are in the south of England, keep well watered.

Previous question
Could be one of several problems:
Lack of water - if it has been in the same container for years it could have become pot bound so the roots are unable to absorb the water.
Wind burn in the acer is in an area that is exposed to a lot of wind the leaves will shrivel up.
Too much sun, Japanese acres prefer a semi shaded position.
Given that you state the acer has been in the same container for years I suspect it is pot bound.
