My daughter who lives in California came home from holiday to find her fig tree infested with what she calls June Bugs. How would she get rid of these ?

These are green June bugs. The most effective control is eradication of the beetle in its grub stage. Sorry to tell you that there is not much she can do now in their adult stage. Spraying is out of the question and baited traps can draw more june bugs to the area. At this time she can do a bit of research on grub control to find a methods available and suitable to her to eliminate the infestation next year.

I would remove all the fruits as it looks like that is what is attracting the beetles. Less adults=less eggs and grubs next year on the Fig.

Daughter now tells me they are Japanese beetles ? Are they.

They are Green Fig Beetles aka June Bugs. They are native to N.America. They are also edible esp as grubs (though not one for me!)

Thanks, B. And L. My daughter has now conceded that they are June bugs etc. She eats a weird diet too but tells me she won't be including any bugs. For myself - I can't imagine anything worse !
