Can the flowering season be prolonged by deadheading this plant?.My daughter would like to know and I don't grow it.

Oooo....beware of Crocosmia. I have clumps of it, and it propagates by runners with corms attached underground, and it is always seeking to expand its territory. I love it at one time, but now, as soon as I see the familiar tall spiky leaves appear, I wrench it out and chuck it. Its a really strong plant, and the runners are as tough as old boots. Anyway, good luck, enjoy the season.

Well she adores them and I am waiting to grab some corms from her next year. They are quite new and only had about three flowers. She is a novice gardener trying to fill the flower beds at the moment.

Take heart, Lucifer here isn't as spready as the orange ones. Our clump expands slowly sideways but hasn't moved anywhere else. If she hasn't got enough to split yet send me a pm in a couple of months.

Thank you Stera that is kind. You don't want any bearded iris do you ?- I have dug loads out. Picture on my pictures.

Thank you for the offer Cammomile but I don't think I have room at present to plant them where the rhizomes would get enough sun - everything's get very crowded and needs a good sort out. Never was very good at planning! My other irises (not bearded ones though) have only produced two flowers this year and need splitting too. They are a lot earlier than the bearded ones.
(and you can have some of those if you like...I'll have to sling some if I can't find a home)

I hate having to throw plants away. Thanks for the offer but I have several clumps of the tall skinny irises and overcrowding like you!

No, the flowers are formed in the corm over the winter.
