How do you deadhead penstemons? : Grows on You

How do you deadhead penstemons? Just cut off the flowering head or cut down to the base?

Just cut the head off to the nearest set of leaves below the spent flower and it will sprout more flowers from the leaf axils.

Me too I cut off the spent flowers and anything brown.
