I know Zephrine drouhin roses are subject to disease. My question is, is it wise to plant a different variety rose in close proximity to the ZD? Basically I'm asking are diseases from roses contagious?

Thanks Seaburn, I really don't like the look of the ZD. I think I might just dump it and be on the safe side. The ZD didn't cost that much but my other roses are David Austin and were quite expensive.

things like black spot is a fungus and some roses are more susceptible than others. so yes it can spread. chose disease resistant varieties. pick up the fallen diseased leaves and don't compost them. you could spray against it next spring. I have ZD next to a climbing white one [name has done a runner] and that hasn't succumbed yet .
