I would be grateful for some advice regarding sweetpeas, I have grown 'Spencer' sweetpeas climbing through large potted clematis for a few years, this has been the best year ever with continuous blooms but all of a sudden the plants are turning grey with what looks like mildew but still in flower, there is none on the clematis any ideas please?

Likely it is mildew, they are prone to this, dryness at the roots makes it more likely - try spraying with a 1 part milk to 9 parts water solution (works well on powdery mildew). Otherwise, use a fungicide spray that treats for mildew.
