Could I put either abelia or lumbago in a large container?

I wouldn't recommend either of these plants for container growing unless you live in a warm part of the country (on the coast, Devon or similar). Neither is entirely cold hardy, but usually survive quite well in the ground in a warmer, sheltered spot; in a container, the roots are more vulnerable to cold temperatures.
