Can someone please tell me what this is growing on the roots of my flowering Cherry tree? The branches of the tree seem to be alive but only maybe a 1/4 of the tree has leaves and isn't looking good. If this is Canker i do not see any signs of it on the trunk or branches, but obviously something is killing the tree.

Well it looks like some kind of canker - but I'd be very surprised if there wasn't evidence of damage like this further up the tree as well. You say the tree is only about a quarter alive - suggest you have it removed, and the roots bored out, asap. If you want another tree there, make sure you choose a canker resistant variety, and in particular, don't plant another tree from the Prunus group.

« An id on this house plant for my sister in law please. Thanks
Need another picture from further away - its very hard to work out quite what I'm looking at, just looks like a lump of wood - is that soil behind it, or just corky wood? Have you checked the trunk for signs of canker?
