During a bad winter a few years ago I thought my corderline had died, it came back the following year and is now quite large. It now has three main stems, is it possible to split this into three separate plants if so how. I'm a new gardener and would appreciate any help.

If you mean its got three separate stems coming up from the base, possibly - if you mean its split into three higher up the trunk, no, its not possible. So, if the split is at the base, you need to cut down the side of a trunk into the soil to get a good bit of root with the part you cut off, assuming the three are connected at soil level. Best done around April/May.
