Hostas are another shade loving plant, as long as you don't mind competing with slugs and snails who like to nibble on them....

Ferns can be quite dramatic.

Anenomes, fritillaries and narcissi for spring colour will all do ok in shade. Viola, pulmonaria, ladies mantle and pachysandra + the common pink geranium are all doing well 2 years after planting on a dry shaded bank.

Hydrangeas like the shade and a sheltered spot.....acers, sambucus, conifers...these would all do well. Also some roses are happy in the shade...I have rambler Paul's scarlet growing by an Hydrangea petiolaris(wall hydrangea) and both are very happy there, and have many blossoms.
