what would be the best shrubs to plant in a area 6ft wide by 15ft long
largest at the back growing to about 6ft those in the middle 3-4ft and those at the front about 1-2 foot about

With ony 6 ft wide, you dont have room for 3 rows of plants. Plants which will reach 6ft at the back will make at least 4ft in width. e.g. Philadelphus, Deutzia, some Viburnums, Ribes sanguineum, Forsythia (deciduous), Choisya, Aucuba, Viburnum tinus, Elaeagnus, Ilex (evergreen).
The front row could have Potentilla, dwarf Spiraea japonica, Euonymus fortunei, Hebes, etc.
