Not a gardening question, but an interest. My tortoise usually comes out in April, but I have had to bring her out of hibernation today as she is wide awake. Has anyone else's tortoise woken up early due to warm weather?.

I haven't a tortoise so can't answer your question, but its good to see you back again, Doctorbob, it's been a while, I was wondering if you were okay...
On the subject, I can only say there were several huge bumble bees on my balcony 2 days ago, along with a rash of ladybirds, if that's any help...

I would seek professional advice on what to do next as far as heat lamp, getting its metabolism up and feeding.

Hello Bamboo, yes, nice to be on again, thank you. I have been extremely busy with the business, plus we have had several tragedies in the family over the past year which have left a mark. Hope you are well.

She will be fine Loosestrife2 I am sure, we have had her for 44 years and she is very tough, she has survived many narrow scrapes. We will feed her very slowly and carefully as usual.

44 years and still going strong!-when one acquires a tortoise one acquires a monument.

Yes, indeed. My problem now is who do I leave her to. I bought her for the children originally but they outgrew her years ago, even the grandchildren have outgrown her.

Have the same problem with the fish in my ponds and my pups. For me at my age, over 80, it won't be long now, so I have someone who will take the fish to a new home before I " Go Home". As far as my pups, they will be well cared for by one of my sons. Yes, there comes a time when one has to think of those things if one is lucky enough to be able to get to that time.

A lady I know thought her days were numbered a few years ago and was in the same position as you. Her tortoise was 80 at the time and so she contacted Drusillas in East Sussex where he/she/the tortoise now lives and she can visit whenever she or the family want which is a brilliant idea.

Thanks Cammomile, that's a great idea. We will see who goes first !

You made me smile - it's a funny thing, and although I'm a bit younger than you guys, I have on occasion had the sensation that its a race to the finish line, so to speak, between me and my siblings... after all, if you make it to 60 ok (fifties being a dodgy decade, lost some people then) anything after that is a bonus, and all bets are off...

You Betcha Bamboo!

You gave me some advice a couple of years ago Dr Bob, about my young willow tree....its doing very well just as you said and grown a new leader....as tall as the others....

Nice to see you back and I hope your tortoise
......and you keep well x

Thank you Pamg, so glad my advice worked. Best wishes to you.

How do you know Bamboo, that you are younger than us? I might be losing it a bit but I'm not old! No offence taken!

And to you Dr Bob.....

Well my response was really in response to Loosestrife in particular (who tells us his age), and Docbob, who's clearly attempting to arrange care for his tortoise after he's gone, not everyone on the site, nor everyone who's in this thread, Cammomile! I'm absolutely certain there are people on the site a fair bit younger than I am...

I completely understand. I was pulling your leg!

Oh, good. I'd have to be bonkers myself to think, at over 60, I'm one of the 'young' ones on the site!

10 Mar, 2015

Sadly girls, I am probably older than both of you put together. Lol.

Not unless Cammomile's under 30; if she were 35, you'd have your telegram from the Queen this year;-)
