Raspberry canes.....some of them seem to be sending out long shoots about a foot away from the main plant. Are these suckers that should be removed?

I'd wait until summer when you prune out the stems that have fruited to remove the suckers personally.

And you can replant them to get more canes...

yes they need to be pruned, mabye now in the spring would be a good time to do it.
