Moss killer - green compost bin.
Number 1 son noticed a lot of moss in the lawn - spread moss killer on it. He now has to scarify it in about 10 day's time.
The question is - can he put the dead moss in the compost bin ( in thin layers as per grass cuttings of course) .

yes, it can be added to a compost heap.

Hi Hank, I agree with bamboo, but I find it takes moss a long time to rot down, so any moss I get goes in the council garden waste bin, Derek.

I am sorry but I would not put anything in the compost bin that has any sort of weed killer used on it.

RHS says its fine, John 743, despite its being treated.

Would it be the same for a weed and feed product as well,? we applied one to ours last week,so it will be scarified shortly..

I wouldn't put the thatch you remove into the compost personally, if its been treated with a weed and feed product - it depends on the weedkiller and how long it persists. Certainly, the feed element in those treatments is meant to break down slowly over 6 weeks, so some of that would still be in there. It'd probably be fine to put it on the compost, but I'd bin it, not too comfortable with that!
