Hi everyone,
I'm growing swift potatoes in a grow bag, and I have noticed that the leaves have developed rust... Please can anyone advise if I need to destroy the whole plant or if it can be left for the potatoes to grow? The leaves have nearly all died now too and I have also moved it away from the other potatoes that I'm growing.
Many thanx for your help
Lucy :-)

I believe the rust will spread to the potatoes themselves so it might be as well to destroy the plant now and get rid of the compost. As its a fungal infection take precautions that you don't allow the spores to float off to the unaffected potatoes. You could invert a bag over the plant and pot, and tip the lot into it perhaps? Just a suggestion as I haven't had the problem.
