How do we discourage foxes in the garden. They are digging holes - one in the lawn quite deep before we saw it.

I once heard that male human urine is an effective deterrent. So if you got enough to fill a spray bottle go around the perimeter of the garden with it and apply to the particular areas in your garden that they favor.

Take away their food source is the only way i'm aware of. I have Foxes a work and sometimes they can dig 40 or 50 holes in order to get their dinner.
If you can find something to kill the chaeffer beetle larvae and leatherjackets, it might just stop them.

The one about male urine is true and actually works. I knew someone who kept chickens in small pens and this was the only deterrent he used. Otherwise a shotgun springs to mind!

I don't think I've ever seen a wild fox, but we are having problems with coyotes and they are not so shy.

Bathgate, wait till you see a black bear roaming around, it won't be long till you do.....I did. When I resided in Queens NYC, I saw both fox and pheasant in St. Johns Cemetary.

Be sure to bury hardware cloth at least 12 inches into the ground along the fence, as foxes are diggers. An electrified fence is a powerful deterrent. Items with a strong human scent, such as a sweaty tee shirt or vacuum cleaner fluff can also discourage foxes from lingering on your property. Don't leave pet food outside where a fox can find it, and keep trash cans securely closed.
