As above but i would replace the phrase "You might have to repeat several times and possibly over a few years" to "You might have to repeat several times and possibly over a few decades or even centuries"
Nasty nasty stuff

If you see one with a different kind of stem and a little knob at the top cut it off right away because that has spores in it for making new plants, as well as a huge network of roots underground. If you only have the one in the picture right now you are lucky - do all you can to get rid before it takes over, even it this means disturbing the membrane under the shingle. It grows right through membrane with no trouble.

Did you know Horsetail is said to be better than a brillo for scouring pots & pans & birdbaths etc, - just saying!

It's a Horsetail, Equisetum arvense. It's not easy to get rid of, the best way seems to be by trampling well to bruise and then spraying with glyphosate. You might have to repeat several times and possibly over a few years.
