Can anyone identify this plant, please? I found it growing in huge quantities on the lower part of the cliff face at Budleigh Salterton on 14th June, 2015.

Mesembryanthemum?

We used to grow a mesembryanthemum similar to this called M. roseum but it was just a little different

It's Carpobrotus edulus, Hottentot fig. This is a Schedule 9 plant, meaning that it is an offence to allow it to escape into the wild. It's a very invasive alien, a scourge of sea cliffs.

Very interesting. The Wikipedia entry for Carpobrotus edulus confirms Landgirl100's identification and what I saw. Interestingly, I've now discovered that Mesembryanthemum acinaciforme is also known as Carpobrotus acinaciformis, and that too looks very similar, so Lutleyyeltz is probably very close. Thanks very much for the prompt responses.
If it's an offence to let it out, I wonder who the culprit was ....

I grew up just along the coast at Exmouth and it was there then. It's not a recent arrival in Budleigh.

Judging by the enormous quantities of it, I can well believe it's been there a long time. Pity it's an invasive alien - it's very pretty.
