Hi, although some sellers of this plant say it's hardy, this is far from universally accepted, it might be hardy enough to be grown outside in the channel islands, but that isn't the same as being hardy in the north of England for example, so be careful how you grow it, Derek.

I had one of these about 8 years ago - it lived for about 3/4 years on my south facing balcony in London. It flowered quite well, but it never really grew much, always looked as if it was struggling to grow and not particularly lively, and I got fed up with it after 5 years and chucked it. Or maybe it keeled over in that hard winter we had 3 or 4 years ago, I can't quite remember. I was glad to see the back of it, frankly... at the time, there were loads of online blogs and chat rooms dedicated to this plant, all of them having the same trouble I was having. Some people felt it did a little better in ericaceous compost, I never found it made much difference. Maybe you'll be more successful with yours.

Well, at least you're near the sea - its never quite so cold with a body of water nearby.
