Possibly a strange question but is it possible to identify what type of bluebells - either native or Spanish from the shape of the bulbs. I have dug some dormant bulbs up from an area in the garden that had both types. Some are round and some are more oval shaped bulbs. I would prefer to have only native species.thanks

in my experience sadly not. I suppose as you have already dug them up you could pot them up according to shape. but how will you decide if you have and ovalish round one or a roundish oval one? There is such a lot of variation in the bulb shape.

if you have them growing together some could be hybrids too.

I agree, you can tell them apart using the leaves and the flowers but not from the bulbs.

I'm certain I've got only Spanish ones (sadly) and their bulbs are all different shapes so I would say no.

How do I say thanks?
