My bramley apple tree has several new shoots, should I cut them off to let sun get to the fruit and can I do it now?

I have had no problems with my Bramley fruit ripening in shady areas. I suggest leaving well alone until the fruit is picked, and then prune out any crossing branches and shorten shoots to suit the position.
