Does anyone have any idea what this is? The stem has thorns like a rose & the pom pom is about the size of a golf ball.
It's growing on an area that was cleared where a hawthorn hedge used to be.

Dt85 asked the same question on the 7th. It's called a robin's pincushion, a gall caused by a wasp.
